I’ve been writing about witchcraft for almost as long as I’ve been practicing it—because writing is what I do in my mundane life, what I’ve done professionally for more than 40 years. It’s why you’ll find most of my witchy body of work under the pseudonym Willow Rose—I couldn’t risk having my conservative clients stumbling across my moonlight scribblings and discovering a witch in their midsts. Now that I’m out of the broom closet, I can devote my full attention to writing about the craft.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be adding regular posts on everything you’ve always wanted to know about practical magick but were afraid to ask. Subscribe now to receive new posts directly to your email so you won’t miss a thing. And thank you for your interest in Simple Witchery.

A Little Housekeeping
Why magick and not magic? The spelling with the added k was adopted by many practitioners to distinguish what we do from the magic of illusion (as performed by magicians). Its use is optional.
Navigating Courses. Posts are presented “lastest first” by default, but in Courses it will make more sense to read forward from the oldest post. To help facilitate that order, you’ll find navigations links at the bottom of each post to take you to the next (or back to the previous). It will look like this —
Male and Male Identifying Witches. Men practicing witchcraft are witches, it is not a gendered term. Warlock has a different origination—meaning oath breaker. In that light, some male witches who have left structured religious affiliation (Christain, Jewish, Islam or other) self identify as Warlocks. Some do it because it sounds cool. It is a personal choice.
Witchcraft and Wicca are not one in the same. Wicca is one tradtion of witchcraft. There are many others, each with unique spritual and cultural identity. We are not a monolith.
I am the head witch here. While I encourage and welcome commenting and questions, if you choose to share your thoughts on any posts, use discretion, be polite and kind, no gatekeeping (you’ll learn what this is, but mostly it’s being a bossy-pants know it all), and don’t argue—it’s acceptable to state differing opinions, but it is NOT acceptable to insist others agree. I will shut that shit down.
So, welcome to Courses in Witchery, settle in, relax, brew yourself a cup of tea, and sit for spell.
